Dream Catchers

Exploring the ongoing issues relating to our shared physical space

Designing our Future
The former Steering Committee, now renamed the Dream Catchers, participated in three activities in the month of June 2010. We had a two-hour meeting on June 17th to continue our planning and update ourselves on three books we have read on designing churches. We decided the contents of the planned Sunday Congregational Forum for June 27th – each of us taking a part and deciding what we wished to ask each of the friends and members in attendance. In addition, we discussed the upcoming presentation by the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission scheduled for Friday evening, June 25th.

The scheduled forum on the Impacts of Climate Change and Sea Level Rise did happen on Friday, the 25th. We wish to thank Wendy White Bell for arranging this presentation and Patrick McCarty for the design of an outstanding flyer to advertise it. We hand delivered invitations to all our neighbors around the Hague and specifically invited folks from the Chrysler Museum and the Ghent Neighborhood League. About 50 members of the target audience attended. The presentation was well done, and there were very interesting questions asked afterward. We have been given an electronic and a paper copy of a report generated by the Planning district. It and similar ones will be invaluable in consideration of possible outcomes from our collective deliberations.

On June 27 we held a congregational forum with about 70 in attendance. The committee made its presentations, questions were taken and answered, and 4×6 cards were filled out by attendees with the following information: Names, Contact Information, Career/Occupation, Other resources/ Talents/ Skills, What your Passions are, and Information you think is important for the Committee to use in this process. If you were unable to attend, you can still provide that information by sending an e-mail to dreamcatchers@*ourdomain*.

The Dream Catchers group, comprised of Martha Shore, Mark Fetterly, Glen Coats, Douglas Throp, Jerry Slosser, Gary Copeland, and Rev. John Manwell, will be meeting over the next two months to process information received from the congregation and to develop a list of possible solutions by the end of this year.
